MEAGAN WARMINGTON

I completed my Master’s degree in Clinical
Psychology at Nelson Mandela University
where I was fortunate enough to have my
practical training split between an adult
psychiatric hospital, a community clinic and
being part of a multidisciplinary team at a
school for Autistic learners. At these
institutions I dealt with children, teenagers,
couples and adults who had various
struggles and psychological struggles.

Internship experience:
Working at a government psychiatric hospital alongside a multidisciplinary team with both male and female patients displaying moderate to severe mental impairments and cognitive distortions. Working with patients displaying mood disorders (including severe anxiety and depression), traumatic experiences, cognitive impairments, substance addition and severe psychosis.

I had the privilege of being part of the team to assess children who were displaying signs of the Autism Spectrum and ADHD and assessing which school would be most applicable to each child’s individual needs.

Community Service experience:
Red Cross War Children’s Hospital. Working not only with children who have experienced
medical conditions, but also working specifically with children and their families presenting with psychosocial difficulties. Ranging from behavioural difficulties, mood disorders, family system comorbidities and bereavement.
